Honoring a Hero: Dr. Shark Bird, MD.
In honor of Health Literacy Month, we would like to highlight our first Health Literacy Hero Dr. Shark Bird, MD. Dr. Bird is currently the Chief Medical Officer of one of the largest wound care physicians group (Vohra Wound Physicians) in the post-acute space in the nation. His personal mission to improve the quality of wound management and outcomes to patients all over the country is becoming a reality. He now supervises over 200 clinicians in 26 states in over 2500 facilities nationwide, along with the creation of our own wound care certification program VohraCert.
As a Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP) from the American Board of Wound Management, and Certified Medical Director (CMD) from the American Medical Director Association, Dr. Bird holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana in Anatomy and Physiology. He received his medical degree from Marshall University in Huntington, WV and completed his residency in Family Medicine in Charleston, WV with West Virginia University. He left private practice in 2004 to join Vohra Wound Management.
Beginning with his initial exposure to wound management while doing mission work in West Africa, Dr. Bird’s extensive expertise in wound management has been gained from his lifelong care of geriatric patients and extensive research. He is the author of numerous publications and travels extensively presenting to various organizations interested in wound management.
Dr. Bird currently resides in Daytona Beach, Florida. When not providing wound care or teaching, he can be found enjoying the ocean waves on his surfboard.
