Avanté at Lake Worth Recognized as a Vohra Center of Excellence for Wound Management

(Lake Worth, FL)- Avanté at Lake Worth is the newest Vohra Center of Excellence for Wound Management. Dr. Rizwan Kalwar, M.D. and other Vohra Wound Physician representatives awarded the certificate at a presentation earlier this month.

Avanté at Lake Worth becomes the fourth Avanté facility in Florida to achieve this recognition. The facility met several quality measures, which include having a less than 1% wound-related hospitalization rate for a year.

The facility takes a multi-specialty team approach to wound care, with Dr. Kalwar leading the team. “I can’t stress enough the necessity of a team approach to have a successful program, from the CNA’s to administration,” Kalwar says. “Alongside Candace Harmon, who is a Vohra Certified Wound Care Nurse, I am fortunate to have this team at Avanté of Lake Worth.”

Facility Executive Director Portia Surtain is proud of the team’s success. “The team is great. We lead by example here. We work great together, they are true team players.”

The teamwork, combined with clinical expertise, continue to produce success stories with their residents suffering with wounds.

Kalwar says, “It is a testament to Avanté of Lake Worth to not only accept the responsibility for such severely compromised patients, but also that they strive to provide a high quality of wound service which leads to positive outcomes.”

Avanté at Lake Worth Director of Nursing Collin Gordon adds, “We’ve had quite a few success stories with residents coming in here with huge wounds that get resolved. The residents get discharged home. It’s really a satisfaction, not just for me as the director of nursing but for the whole team.”

Wound Care Nurse Candace Harmon says she receives clinical satisfaction from seeing the wounds heal. “We have a lot of people that come in with really complicated wounds and they resolve really quickly with our treatment and care. It’s a reward to call the family members and let them know that the wound is getting better.”

Harmon recalls one example of a successful wound healing outcome. A man in his late seventies was admitted to the facility with a very large Stage 4 pressure injury. The wound measured 10 centimeters by 8 centimeters and was 2 centimeters in depth when the team started caring for the resident. “We healed it,” Harmon said. “We resolved it. The patient actually was discharged home after that. That is a success story!”
