Avanté at Boca Raton Claims Vohra Certification

Avanté at Boca Raton has been certified as a Vohra Center of Excellence for Wound Management. The facility becomes the fifth Avanté facility in Florida to achieve the Vohra Center of Excellence designation.

Avanté at Boca’s road to the certification came with its share of challenges  . The facility often admits residents with complex acute wounds that require specialist-level care. However, the wound care team never took its focus off giving the best care to their residents with wound issues. The team is led by Vohra Physician Rizwan Kalwar, M.D.

“Where other nursing facilities may avoid admitting patients with complicated wounds, Avanté at Boca Raton takes the challenge head on,” said Kalwar  . “Wounds are not simply stabilized but with proper management we have an expectation for resolution. In addition to the Director of Nursing, I’m fortunate to work alongside their dedicated wound care nurse, Marie Appolon, and the supporting nursing staff. I’m happy to be a part of their journey in becoming a Vohra Center of Excellence.”

Avanté at Boca boasts strong wound healing rates. Despite admitting residents with complicated wounds and multiple comorbidities, the facility is completely resolving 50% of its residents’ pressure injuries within 4 weeks.

For Appolon, helping to heal wounds is what motivates her. “That’s why I do this,” Appolon said. “I truly love seeing these bad wounds upon admission, treating and healing them. It’s a wonderful feeling  .”

Additionally, Appolon is expertly trained in wound care having recently completed the Vohra Wound Care Certification Course online at www.cert.vohrawoundcare.com.

“When the director of nursing asked me to be the wound care nurse here, I wanted to get wound certified, Appolon said. “I chose to complete the online course from Vohra. I got a lot out of the program. The education provided helped me clarify certain wound types. It helped me learn how to clearly identify venous and arterial wounds and diabetic wounds. After doing the reading and looking at the examples, I understood it better. The program made it simple to learn.”

Director of Nursing, Marie Claude Benoit recognizes the achievement comes as a result of a full team effort. “I’d like to thank Dr. Vohra’s group for bringing us to this level,” said Benoit. “This award of excellence and recognition for our facility is a great thing for Avante of Boca. I am extremely honored to be a part of the team. It’s a team that loves what it’s doing. Dr. Kalwar is exceptional. Marie is beyond one’s comprehension as a nurse and wound care specialist.”
